Milner Library
The University Libraries of Illinois State University comprise Milner Library and the University Archives. In addition, the University Libraries host the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) and provide special services to the libraries of Metcalf Elementary and University High Schools.
Milner Library supports the University Mission by providing users with an intellectually-engaging destination that maximizes their opportunities for learning and scholarship. To achieve this, the staff:
- Provides access to, and assistance with, a rapidly growing universe of information and creative expression;
- Leads in efforts to integrate information literacy into the University curriculum through teaching and collaboration;
- Nurtures the learning of a diverse community of users by maintaining vital spaces for studying, group discussion, and the co-creation of knowledge;
- Preserves resources important to the University in traditional and digital formats;
- Selects, acquires, organizes, and preserves materials in physical and electronic formats;
- Responds to patron questions and provides personalized instruction in the methods of identifying and retrieving library materials and other information sources;
- Teaches the information literacy skills needed for degree programs and lifelong learning;
- Provides a variety of physical and virtual spaces and learning environments; and safeguards irreplaceable archival materials.
In addition, Milner Library is the home to a unique collection of memorabilia, books, and other special items in its Special Collections.
