Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Gladly We Give F/S/R Annual Fund?

The Gladly We Give Faculty/Staff/Retiree Annual Fund is a way for current and retired employees to invest in the university, thereby investing in our own futures, our students’ futures, and the future of the community.  Gladly We Give is designed to encourage more faculty, staff, and retires to support the University each year and to recognize and thank all current and retired employees for their annual gifts to Illinois State University.

What is the difference between SECA and the Gladly We Give Annual Fund?

SECA gifts do not count towards the Gladly We Give Annual Fund. SECA is the State Employee Combined Appeal and is an opportunity each fall for all state employees, including those at all Illinois public universities, to support local, state, and national charities such as the United Way. Your donations to these funds support many important causes that are unrelated to Illinois State University.

I already work here, so why should I give?

Annual participation is the key to our success. The number of current and retired employees supporting us influences corporations and foundations that are considering major grants and gifts to the University.

As members of the University community, we can all see first-hand how expensive it has become to obtain a post-secondary education. Faculty and staff giving can never be enough to make up the shortfall, but your participation can go a long way to helping us be heard when we ask for corporate, foundation and legislative support.

Your annual gift is a vote of confidence in Illinois State University and its mission. Your participation each year will lead the way to our future success.

The reasons for making a gift through the Gladly We Give annual fund are very personal to each donor, and Illinois State University offers a vast array of funding opportunities to meet the personal goals of our donors. Perhaps working with students through the years makes you want to help provide scholarships or fellowship opportunities. Maybe your academic department needs private funding for unique programs and activities that you feel are important to support. Or a specific area of research might be particularly meaningful for you and your family.

When is my gift due?

We have designated February and March as the focus months, but any gift given in the ’09 fiscal year (July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009) will count toward our goal of increasing the number of faculty/staff/retiree donors!

What if my spouse works for a matching gift company?

For many donors, knowing that their gift can be doubled thanks to matching gifts is a powerful incentive to give to the campus annually. Your spouse will need to check his/her company’s matching gift policies to determine what gifts are matched as well as how the gift should be given.  Typically, the gift must be made by the employee, which means your payroll deduct gifts cannot be matched.

May I designate my gift to any area on campus?

Absolutely! Your contribution can be designated to a variety of areas including scholarships, colleges, departments, schools, programs or endowed funds, just to name a few. Your gift directly benefits the area you choose. Simply note your preference on the gift form.

How much should I give back?

Participation is our goal. What is important is that you choose to give, not necessarily the amount. When everyone gives a little bit, we all gain a lot! An annual gift of at least $10 is all that is required to be included in our goal and to have your name listed on the Gladly We Give F/S/R Annual Fund donor roll.

I already give to The Redbird Club or WGLT through the ISU Foundation, so why should I give more?

Your support to any area of Illinois State University, including these areas, is very important. Thanks for your involvement! Your donation will be counted as part of our goal.

I am also a graduate of Illinois State and gave to my college/department/school through the Telefund. Do I need to also give to the Gladly We Give F/S/R Annual Fund?

No, the Gladly We Give F/S/R Annual Fund and the Alumni Telefund are just two separate ways to support our University through gifts to the ISU Foundation. You count as both an employee and alumnus donor.

May my spouse and I make a joint gift?

Absolutely!  It will be important to designate on your check or gift form that this is a joint gift so be sure to include both names.

What if I want my gift to be anonymous?

Simply check the appropriate place on the Gladly We Give gift form. Your name will not be included on our donor lists.

How long do I have to complete payment on my pledge?

We are asking for a commitment for just one year. Each year we will ask for your annual gift. If you elect to use payroll deduct for your gift, you pledge should be completed within 12 months

How can I check my current pledges?

Redbird Connections is your secure site with your personal and gift information. Your Illinois State UID number is all that is required for you to register with the site and access your information.

What are the payment options?

Choose the most convenient way for you! (Please note, there is a $10 minimum gift.)

How do I give online?

Giving online is as simple as going to our secure website and filling out the form. You can give using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).

How do I designate when giving online?

On the online form, you will find a box called Gift Designation, there you can designate your gift to any area of campus.

What is our goal?

The Gladly We Give F/S/R Annual Fund is different than the recent Redefining Normal comprehensive campaign, which had a very specific dollar goal. The goal of the Gladly We Give is to increase the number of faculty/staff/retired employees who each year donate to the ISU Foundation to support an area of choice on campus. Our ultimate goal is to have 50% participation each year.
